TfWM to operate Midland Metro from October 2018 [free access]

March 23, 2017

Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), the transport division of West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), has announced plans to operate Midland Metro trams when the existing operating contract with National Express expires in October 2018.

WMCA has plans to construct several extensions to expand the Midland Metro network over the next decade and it believes in-house operations will ease the delivery of capital projects. In addition, WMCA has formed an alliance, known as the Midland Metro Alliance, with Colas Rail, Egis Rail, Tony Gee and Pell Frischman, to oversee the design and construction of the extension projects.

The Midland Metro expansion programme includes the construction of new lines to Centenary Square, Edgbaston and Curzon Street as well as an extension of the existing line to the Wolverhampton’s bus and railway station along Pipers Row.
