Dakar TER project secures funding, Senegal [free access]

Government of Senegal has signed two financing agreements valued at USD215.5 million for the Dakar Train Express Régional (TER) project. The funds will be utilised for the procurement of rolling stock and renewal of the existing railway line for TER service. The French Treasury has allocated XAF63.18 billion, and the Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD)/ France Development Agency has allocated XAF66.5 billion for the project.


The Dakar TER line will span 57 km from the city centre to the new Blaise Diagne International Airport, covering 14 stations. It will be developed in two phases. Phase I will span 36 km from Dakar to Diamniadio and is expected to be completed in 26 months. Studies for the design and preliminary works are underway and the commissioning is expected in 2018. Phase II will span 19 km from Diamniadio to AIBD and is expected to be completed in 15 months.
