SNCF begins commercial operation on two HSR PPP lines [free access]

July 3, 2017

French railway operator, Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Français (SNCF), has begun commercial operations on two high-speed rail (HSR) lines, LGV Sud Europe Atlantique (LGV SEA) and LGV Bretagne – Pays de la Loire (LGV BPL). The two lines together span more than 500 km.

The LGV SEA spans 302 km from Tours to Bordeaux. It extends the southern arm of LGV Atlantique, which opened in September 1990. The LGV BPL spans 182 km from Connerré near Le Mans to Rennes. It extends the western branch of LGV Atlantique, which opened in 1989.

Both HSR lines have been constructed under public-private partnership (PPP) concessions, and both include intermediate junctions that allow non-high-speed service.
