Egypt prequalifies companies for Alexandra LRT consultancy contract [free access]

Egypt’s National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) has prequalified six consortia for the consultancy contract to rehabilitate light-rail transit (LRT) Line 1 in Alexandria.


The scope of work includes advertisement support, detailed design of civil works, evaluation of technical and financial proposals, support in negotiations with selected bidders, supervision of project implementation and preparation of the operations and maintenance (O&M) model.


The total cost of the project is EUR360 million. Agence Française de Développement (AFD) will provide EUR100 million and the European Investment Bank (EIB) will provide EUR180 million. The Government of Egypt will finance the remaining EUR80 million.


The LRT Line 1 spans 13.7 km from Victoria to Ramlh, covering 28 stations.
