Newtecnic to supervise the construction of KAFD metro hub, Saudi Arabia [free access]

BACS Consortium, responsible for the design and construction of Lines 1 and 2 of the Riyadh Metro, has appointed UK-based Newtecnic to supervise the construction of the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) metro hub. Newtecnic has also designed the KAFD.


Riyadh Metro will comprise six lines, which will together span 178 km (80 per cent underground) and cover 85 stations. Construction began in April 2014 and is expected to be completed by 2018.


Lines 1 and 2 will together span 64.3 km and cover 42 stations. The BACS Consortium comprises US-based Bechtel Corporation, Saudi Arabia-based Almabani General Contractors and Consolidated Contractors Company, Germany-based Siemens and Greece-based Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC).
