LA Metro to complete 28 transport projects by 2028 [free access]

December 4, 2017

LA Metro has announced plans to complete 28 transportation projects by 2028. The ‘28 by 28’ plan calls for essential road and transit projects to be developed for the 2028 Olympics games. This includes three projects currently under construction (Crenshaw/LAX Line, Regional Connector and Purple Line Extension of the subway to Westwood) and three bus rapid transit (BRT) projects (Vermont Avenue, NoHo to Pasadena, North San Fernando Valley).

The plan also includes accelerating eight other Measure M projects, including a subway under the Sepulveda Pass, a light rail line between Artesia and downtown LA and expansion of freeway toll lanes.

The proposal identifies some new projects that do not have established funding yet. These include Microtransit on-demand vanpool system, and grade separation of the Blue Line at a busy downtown intersection to reduce time delays. For these projects, LA Metro plans to work with private companies for funding.
