Two international consortiums have submitted bids for the ILS2.4 billion tender to supply infrastructure systems for the Red Line of the Tel Aviv light rail transit (LRT) system. The contract is expected to be awarded in January 2018. The scope of work includes the supply of electrical, communications and railway track systems.

The first consortium comprises India-based Texmaco and Israel-based Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Limited and Shapir Engineering and Industry Limited, and the other consortium comprises China Railway Tunnel Group (CRTG), China Railway Electrification Bureau Group (EEB) and Germany-based Deutsche Bahn.

The Red Line is one of the five LRT lines, which will together span 155 km and cover 229 stations. It is currently under construction and is expected to be operational in phases starting from 2018.
