Jakarta airport rail link opens, deploys mobile ticketing, Indonesia [free access]

January 5, 2018

PT Railink, a joint venture (JV) of PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI), has commenced passenger services on the 36.4-km long airport rail link connecting Central Jakarta to the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. The service is expected to be extended to the Manggarai station in South Jakarta in 2019.

The line covers three stations, namely, Sudirman Baru, Duri and Batu Ceper. Feeder buses operate from Sudirman Baru to Gambir, the main inter-city train station in Jakarta. The end-to-end journey time has been reduced from 150 minutes to 55 minutes. The expected daily ridership is 11,000 passengers.

PT Inka and Bombardier will supply 10 six-car train sets by 2019. The first train was delivered in August 2017. Passengers can purchase tickets through the Railink mobile phone application (app). A barcode is sent via email and passengers validate it at the electronic gates at stations. The app can be downloaded on Android's Play Store or iOS' App Store.
