Poland’s BTP zero-emission bus programme secures funding, Poland [free access]

Poland’s National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management/Narodowego Funduszu Ochrony Środowiska i Gospodarki Wodnej (NFOŚiGW) and National Centre for Research and Development/Narodowego Centrum Badań i Rozwoju (NCBR) have agreed to finance the Non-Geographical Public Transport/Bezemisyjny Transport Publiczny (BTP) programme, which involves the procurement of 1,000 zero-emission buses at a cost of PLN2.2-billion in the period 2019-2023. 


NCBR is implementing the BTP programme in two phases. Phase I involves the development of a zero-emission bus and purchase of prototype(s) by partner cities. There are 27 partner cities. Phase II includes procurement of 1,000 buses and their charging infrastructure as well as financial assistance for infrastructure management.


NCBR will provide PLN 100-200 million for Phase I. NFOŚiGW and the Low-Carbon Transport Fund programme will provide PLN2.2 billion for Phase II. Of the total PLN2.2-billion investment, PLN 1 billion will be distributed in non-returnable forms and PLN 1.2 billion in returnable forms.
