Developer/Operator: Hefei Urban Rail Transit Company Limited is the system developer and operator.

 

Project description: Expansion of the metro rail system in Hefei by 2020

 

Background: The Hefei Metro system currently comprises two lines (Lines 1 and 2), which together span 52.4 km and cover 47 stations.

 

Current network:

 

Line 1: The line spans 24.6 km from the Hefei Railway Station to Lake District, covering 23 stations. Service started in December 2016. 

 

Line 2: The line spans 27.8 km (underground) from Nangang to Sanshibu, covering 24 stations. It includes an interchange with Line 1 at Dadongmen. Service started in December 2017.

 

Ridership: The annual ridership on Line 1 during 2016-17 was 39.28 million passengers. 

 

Rolling stock: Nanjing SR Puzhen Rail Transport Company Limited (NPRT) has supplied 26 six-car Type B trains for Line 1. Line 2 deploys a fleet of six-car Type B train sets.

 

The trains can travel at a maximum speed of 80 km/hr.

 

The metro network is expected to span 175.7 km by 2021 and 337.6 km by 2025. Eventually, Hefei Urban Rail Transit Company Limited plans to expand the network further to 15 lines with total length of 470 km.

 

Network under construction:

 

Line 1 extension: Line 1 will be extended to the north by 4.4 km covering three stations. Passenger services are expected to commence in 2019.

 

Line 3: The line will span 37.2 km from Fangxing Dadao to Xiangcheng Lu, covering 33 stations. Passenger services are expected to commence in 2019.

 

Line 4: The line will span 41.4 km from Jimingshan Lu to Dongfang, covering 31 stations. Passenger services are expected to commence in 2020.

 

Line 5: The line will span 40.3 km from Sheqiao Lu to Guiyang Lu, covering 33 stations. Passenger services are expected to commence in 2021. 

 

Network under planning:

 

Line 2 extension: Line 2 is planned to be extended to the east by 14.2 km (6.8-km elevated section) covering 10 stations and to the north by 29 km.

 

Line 6: The line will span 39.4 km from Dazhong Road to West Railway Station, covering 18 stations. Passenger services are expected to commence in 2022.              

 

Line 7: The line will span 34.5 km from Changning Avenue to Guangdong Road. Passenger services are expected to commence in 2025. 

 

Line 8 (Airport Line): The line will span 44.82 km. Passenger services are expected to commence in 2023.The following lines of total length 135.5 km are proposed to be developed in the longer term: 

 

Line 9: The line will span 26.6 km from Chuhe Main Canal to Feixi via Sanshitou.

 

Line 10: The line will span 14.8 km from Chuhe Main Canal to Binhu New District via Beicheng.

 

Line 11: The line will span 29.9 km from Dafangying Reservoir to Binhu New District.

 

Line 12: The line will span 15.5 km from Hefei Railway Station to Feihe Town.

 

Line 13: The line will span 12.3 km from Dafangying Reservoir to the old urban district in the south.

 

Line 14 (east-west): The line will span 16.6 km from Binhu New District to Feixi.

 

 Line 15 (south-north): The line will span 19.8 km from Feixi to Line 2 and Airport Line.
