March 7, 2018

Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) has received a USD16.8-million Capital Investment Grant from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for the First Coast Flyer bus rapid transit (BRT) East Corridor (also known as Red Line). The funds were sanctioned by the FTA in February 2016.

The East Corridor is the fourth segment of the five-phase First Coast Flyer BRT system in Jacksonville. Three segments (Downtown, North and Southeast) have been completed and two segments (East and Southwest) are under construction. The line will span 29.7 km (18.5 miles) and cover 21 stations. The project includes the procurement of 19 buses fuelled by compressed natural gas (CNG) and off-board fare collection system.

The service frequency on weekdays will be 10 minutes during peak hours and 15 minutes during off peak hours. Commercial services are scheduled to begin in December 2018. The project cost of USD33.9 million is being covered by the FTA, Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and JTA.
