Eversholt Rail joins Revolution VLR Consortium [free access]

May 11, 2018

Eversholt Rail has joined the Revolution Very Light Rail (VLR) Consortium that will develop and manufacture the VLR vehicles. The consortium is led by Transport Design International Limited (TDI) and includes Cummins, Prose, RDM Group, the Railway Safety and Standards Board (RSSB), Transcal, and the Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG).

Each 18-metre bi-directional railcar will have the capacity to carry 116 passengers (56 seated) and will be made of lightweight materials to run on a lightweight modular slab track. The vehicles will be self-propelled and will have regenerative braking and optimised hybrid propulsion.

The United Kingdom’s Department for Transport (DfT) will invest GBP3 million for the development of a unique self-powered bogie with an integral, hybrid propulsion system and kinetic energy recovery system. The first vehicle is expected to be completed by 2019.
