King Long and Baidu to develop autonomous minibuses for Japan by 2019 [free access]

July 9, 2018

China-based companies, Baidu and Xiamen King Long United Automotive Industry Company have announced plans to develop 10 electric minibuses under the brand Apolong. The buses will be exported to Japan by 2019. SB Drive Corporation, a subsidiary of Japan-based SoftBank Group Corporation, will conduct the trials for these buses.

Each bus has capacity to carry 14 passengers and is about one-third the size of a normal bus. It has no steering wheel, driver's seat, accelerator or brake. The buses will be deployed as shuttle buses at nuclear power stations and in Tokyo.
