Bolzano to develop new tram line, Italy [free access]

August 2, 2018

The provincial government of Trentino-Alto Adige and the Municipality of Bolzano have signed an agreement to develop a tram line in Bolzano with equal sharing of the costs. The municipality plans to apply for funding from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport by October 2019.

The line will span 7 km and cover 17 stops. It will connect Ponte d'Adige (an intermodal station providing connection to Oltradige -Bolzano metrobus and Merano-Bolzano railway line) and railway station. The trams will be 40 metres long.

Strutture Trasporto Alto Adige SpA (STA), a company owned by the Municipality of Bolzano, will implement the project. SASA Spa, a public company for provision of local public services, will operate the line and integrate it with other modes of transport.
