Panama Metro Line 2 cost escalates to meet January 2019 deadline [free access]

August 24, 2018

The Comptroller General of the Republic of Panama has announced an increase of USD13 million in the estimated construction cost of Panama Metro Line 2. This escalation is reportedly because of the extra effort in expediting the construction process to open the line by mid-January 2019 for the World Youth Day Event between January 22 and January 27, 2019.

Line 2 is being developed in two phases that will together span 23 km and cover 18 stations. While Phase I is currently under construction, procurement for phase two is in process.
