Government funds Broadway Subway and Surrey Light Rail in BC, Canada [free access]

The Government of Canada and the Provincial Government of British Columbia announced funding of more than CAD3 billion for the Broadway Subway and the Surrey-Newton-Guildford Light Rail Transit (LRT) systems. Of the CAD3 billion, the federal government is expected to provide CAD1.37 billion for the projects.


The Broadway Subway project involves the extension of the Sky Train Millennium Line by 5.7 km along the Broadway Corridor from VCC-Clark station to Arbutus Street. It will cover six stations.


The Surrey-Newton-Guildford LRT project will span 10.5 km (at-grade) along 104 Avenue and King George Boulevard from Surrey City Centre to Guildford and Newton. It will be the first operational LRT system in British Columbia.
