A consortium of local urban transport firms - Turicún, Autocar, Maya Caribe and Cooperativa Bonfil - has announced plans to provide an initial investment of MXN250 million for the construction of Cancún-Tulum Metrobus bus rapid transit (BRT) project. Construction is expected to start by end-2018.

Initially, 140 articulated buses will be deployed. Each bus will be 18 metres long, fuelled by compressed natural gas, and have the capacity to carry 160 passengers.

The line will span 104 km from the Cancún city centre to Tulum via the Cancún International Airport. The average daily ridership is estimated to be 50,000 passengers.
