November 14, 2018

Masabi has secured two contracts in Spain, one for the provision of a mobile ticketing pilot in Madrid and another for a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS)-based contactless Europay, Mastercard and Visa (cEMV) pilot in Bilbao.

The company has secured a contract from Empresa Municipal de Transportes de Madrid (EMT Madrid) to test Justride platform and Mastercard’s payment technology on the Airport Express bus, which connects central Madrid with the Barajas International Airport. Santander will be the acquiring bank. The passengers will purchase QR-code based tickets. The pilot will begin in the first quarter of 2019 and last an initial period of 12 months.

In addition, Masabi, along with Spain-based Gertek, has announced plans to launch a pilot of SaaS contactless EMV (cEMV) bank cards on Bilbobus, the urban bus service in Bilbao. The fare collection system will be cloud-based and comprise account-based back office with a dedicated management suite. It will provide data insights and allow authorities to perform variety of customer services (such as reducing journey time) and administrative tasks.
