British Columbia transit projects secure funding [free access]

The Government of Canada and the Provincial Government of British Columbia (BC) have announced plans to allocate CAD136 million for implementation of five transit projects across the province. The funding includes CAD60 million from the federal government, CAD52.6 million from the provincial government and CAD23.8 million from the local government.


The five transit projects comprise procurement of 118 buses for BC Transit; building of 100 transit shelters; introduction of automated fare collection (AFC) systems based on smartphones or smartcards; and deployment of global positioning system (GPS) technologies on 790 buses starting in late 2019.
