November 24, 2018

The Ministries of Energy and Mines, Environment, and Transport and Communications have signed an agreement with the Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership (GSEP) and Protransporte, the public bus operator in Lima, to conduct a pilot for electric bus operations in Lima for a period of two years from May 2019.

Enel-X, a subsidiary of Enel, is the technology provider, and Hydro-Québec and Enel are funding the project cost of PEN2.5 million. The bus will operate on the Red Corridor from Javier Prado to Faucett, via La Marina. The operations will be evaluated for economic feasibility after the first year and technical feasibility after the second year.

The bus will be 12 metres long and have the capacity to carry 80 passengers. It will be equipped with automatic fare collection (AFC) ticketing devices, air-conditioning and a battery with a range of 364 km.
