China inaugurates five HSR lines, to build Shaanxi HSR [free access]

Passenger services have commenced on five high speed rail (HSR) lines in China. The lines include Harbin-Mudanjiang Intercity Railway, Hangzhou-Huangshan Passenger Dedicated Line, Jinan-Qingdao trunk line, Qingdao Bei-Yancheng HSR and Huaihua-Hengyang railway line. These lines collectively span 1,634.6 km.


In addition, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has approved plans to develop a HSR line in Shaanxi Province at an investment of USD7.94 billion. The line will span 291.7 km from Xi'an and Yan'an, covering 11 stations. The trains will run at a speed of 350 km/hr. The provincial government of Shaanxi is partially financing the project. Construction is scheduled to be completed in a period of four and a half years.
