EU defines targets for zero-emission bus procurement [free access]

February 12, 2019

The European Union (EU) and member countries have signed an agreement on green public procurement rules for new buses, which defines the minimum share of bus procurement by local authorities and public companies to be zero-emission buses.

Under the revised Clean Vehicles Directive, more than 75 per cent of the buses will be procured publicly by the transit authorities. Of the total public procurement, depending on a country’s population and gross domestic product (GDP), the public procurement targets for clean buses will be between 24 per cent and 45 per cent in 2025, and between 33 per cent and 66 per cent in 2030.
