Qbuzz awards contracts for 217 electric buses, Netherlands [free access]

Qbuzz has awarded separate contracts to Ebusco, Heuliez Bus and VDL Bus & Coach (VDL) for supply of 217 electric buses in the Netherlands. Ebusco and Heuliez Bus have secured two contracts each.


Ebusco, Heuliez Bus and VDL have secured separate contracts to supply of 162 electric buses in Groningen and Drenthe. The total value of procurement is around EUR100 million. The buses are scheduled to be delivered by December 2019.


Ebusco will supply 60 electric intercity buses. Each bus will be 12 metres long and have a range of 400 km on single charge. The buses can be charged through plug. 


Heuliez Bus will supply 59 GX 437 electric buses. Each bus will be 18 metres long and equipped with 160/200 kW electric traction motor and 250-kWh Li-ion NMC battery system. Forsee Power provides the battery system for Heuliez Bus.


VDL Bus & Coach has secured a contract to supply 43 VDL Citeas Electric buses, comprising 11 VDL Citeas SLFA-180 and 32 VDL Citeas SLF-120 Electric buses.


Each Citeas SLF-120 Electric bus will feature a 216 kWh battery pack and 2-door configuration, whereas the Citeas SLFA-180 Electric bus will feature a 288 kWh battery system and 3-door configuration. The charging of the buses will be through pantograph on the roof.


In July 2018, OV-bureau Groningen Drenthe, the public transport organiser, selected Qbuzz as the bus operator for the provinces of Groningen and Drenthe. The new electric buses will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 90 per cent.


Further, Ebusco and Heuliez Bus have secured separate contracts to supply 55 electric buses. Heuliez Bus will supply 35 articulated electric buses for bus lines 3, 7 and 8 in Utrecht. Ebusco will supply 20 electric buses for regional services. The buses are expected to be delivered by first quarter of 2020.


Qbuzz currently operates two hydrogen buses and plans to procure another 20 hydrogen buses.
