April 3, 2019

The federal government of Australia has allocated AUD2 billion from 2020–21 for the upgradation of the Melbourne–Geelong line in the state of Victoria. The upgrade is expected to increase the average train speed to 160 km/hr, thereby reducing the journey time from one hour to approximately 32 minutes. Funding for this project is contingent on a matching contribution from the state government of Victoria.
