April 5, 2019

Spain-based IDOM Consulting, Engineering, Architecture, S.A.U. (IDOM) has secured a EUR6.8million contract (excluding VAT) from RB Rail AS to provide design and supervision services for the construction of Rail Baltica’s Kaunas–Ramygala section in Lithuania. The contract will be signed in May 2019 and the work is expected to be completed by 2021. The scope of work includes site investigation, value engineering, development of the master design, detailed technical design, as well as design supervision during the construction period.

The Kaunas–Ramygala section will span around 78 km. The preliminary plan includes construction of seven road viaducts, 11 railway viaducts, three eco-ducts, four railway bridges, as well as a 1.7-km- long railway bridge over the Neris river, which will be the longest railway bridge in the Baltic states.

Rail Baltica will span 870 km (213 km in Estonia, 265 km in Latvia, and 392 km in Lithuania). It is one of the priority projects of the European Union’s (EU’s) Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T) under the North Sea Baltic Corridor. In total, 11 procurement procedures are planned for detailed technical designs, and tenders for seven contracts have been launched, which cover 57 per cent of the entire Rail Baltica line.
