Cubic to provide mobile ticketing in Ireland [free access]

April 8, 2019

Cubic Transportation Systems has secured a EUR3.61 million (USD4.05 million) contract from Ireland’s National Transport Authority (NTA) to supply and maintain a mobile ticketing solution for public transport. The contract is awarded under the first phase of NTA’s Next Generation Ticketing (NGT) programme, which seeks to implement new and more flexible ticketing systems, provide additional payment options for travel, as well as improve the overall passenger experience.

The new mobile ticketing application (app) will allow passengers to purchase tickets for multiple public transport operators from one platform. Initially, the app will be launched on a pilot basis on selected Bus Éireann regional routes by 2019. Later, the app will be extended to other routes in phases.

NTA plans to deploy account-based ticketing (ABT) on the rail network as well as the tram network in Dublin.
