Kuwait: Operational efficiency of KPTC [free access]

July 1, 2019

During 2013–2017, Kuwait Public Transport Company (KPTC) reduced its fleet size by over 50 per cent as its fleet was under-utilised. The distance travelled by buses declined at an average annual growth rate (AAGR) of 13.34 per cent during 2013–2017. The reduction in operations is attributed to a high motorisation rate (number of private cars per 1,000 inhabitants), availability of services on select routes, low frequency of services, and frequent breakdown of buses.

The following table highlights the declining efficiency of operations of KPTC.
