Singapore MRT CCL6 tunneling and CCL system upgrade works begin; to buy 12 more trains [free access]

July 25, 2019

Tunnelling works on the Keppel–Harbour Front section of Singapore Mass Rapid Transit System (MRT) Circle Line Stage 6 (CCL6) have commenced. Two more tunnel boring machines (TBMs) are expected to be launched in September and October 2019.

CCL6 will span 4 km, connecting the existing Harbour Front station with the Marina Bay station, marking the completion of the Circle Line. It is being developed at an estimated investment of SGD4.85 billion and is scheduled to commence operations in 2025. With the opening of CCl6, the Circle Line will span around 40 km and cover 33 stations.

In addition, Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) and SMRT Corporation have launched a series of system enhancement works for the existing Singapore MRT Circle Line. The enhancement works will upgrade the signalling, power supply, and communication systems.

In addition, LTA has announced that it will purchase 12 more trains from France-based Alstom. The delivery of the trains is scheduled to begin in 2024. Alstom will also supply 11 additional trains under a contract secured in April 2018.
