Shapir, CAF consortium awarded Jerusalem LRT contract, Israel [free access]

TransJerusalem J-Net Limited, a consortium of Israel-based Shapir and Spain-based CAF Group, has secured a ILS10 billion contract to build, operate and maintain (O&M) the Jerusalem light rail transit (LRT). The scope of work includes construction of the Green Line, construction of 27 km of track, 53 stations and depots across the Red Line extension, and the design and supply of 114 new trams for the Green Line. The scope also includes supply of signalling, energy, and communication systems, and refurbishment of 46 trams currently operating on the Red Line. The operation of both the lines will be for a period of 15 years (extendable) and maintenance services will be provided for 25 years. Construction on the lines is expected to begin by end-2019 and operations are scheduled to begin by 2025.


The Green Line will span 20.6 km and connect the Hebrew University and Gilo neighbourhood. The Red Line extension will span 6.8 km to Hadassah Medical Center in Ein Kerem.
