Contract awarded for Melbourne Sunbury Line upgrade, Australia [free access]

John Holland, CPB Contractors, Metro Trains Melbourne, and AECOM have secured an AUD215 million contract from the state government of Victoria to upgrade the Sunbury Line, a suburban rail line in Melbourne. The scope of work includes extending platforms to accommodate high-capacity metro trains (HCMTs) being supplied by Evolution Rail, improving accessibility, and building new stabling at three stations (Sunbury, Calder Park, and Watergardens).

 

The site investigation works for extending the platforms and the stabling upgrades are scheduled to commence by end-August 2019, whilethe other works are scheduled to begin by end-2019. The upgrade works will support the deployment of HCMTs after the commencement of operations of the Melbourne Metro Tunnel. The Melbourne Metro Tunnel and the HCMTs will increase peak hour ridership by 113,000 per week and reduce journey time by up to 40 minutes per day.
