Solaris to supply electric buses in Italy and Poland [free access]

August 16, 2019

Solaris has secured two contracts in two different countries from two different authorities to supply electric buses.

Solaris has secured a contract from ACTV SPA Venezia to supply 30 Solaris Urbino 12 electric buses and charging infrastructure. The total value of the contract is more than EUR20 million. The electric buses will replace the existing fleet of diesel buses deployed on the Lido and Pellestrina islands by the end of 2020.

The buses will be driven by a drive axle with two 125 kW integrated electric motors and the energy will be derived from 116-kWh Solaris High Power batteries. Each bus will feature air-conditioning, a ramp for people with reduced mobility, passenger information and on-board video monitoring systems, anti-graffiti coated passenger seats, and a fire protection system.

Further, Solaris has secured a PLN15 million contract from Przedsińôbiorstwo Komunikacji Miejskiej (PKM), a public transport operator in Katowice, to supply five Solaris Urbino 12 electric buses. The buses will be delivered within 350 days from the date of signing the contract.

The electric buses will be driven by a centrally mounted 160-kW traction motor and powered through 250-kWh Solaris High Energy batteries. The buses can be charged through a plug-in connector as well as an inverted pantograph. Each bus will have a capacity to carry 80 passengers (26 seated). It will be equipped with air-conditioning, a passenger information system, and CCTV (including passenger compartment cameras and reversing cameras).
