September 20, 2019

Switzerland-based Stadler has entered into a joint venture (JV) with Indonesia-based PT INKA to develop and manufacture rail vehicles using modern aluminium technology in Indonesia. This JV marks the entry of Stadler in Southeast Asian markets. One of the key conditions for the implementation of the JV is that it should receive an order to manufacture 500 suburban rail coaches. The contract should also include an option to supply 500 additional coaches. Such an order will mark the commencement of transfer of technology.

PT INKA started the construction of a production plant in Banyuwangi, Indonesia. The construction of the plant is scheduled to be completed by 2021. Apart from manufacturing aluminium-based rolling stock, the plant will also undertake the pre-assembly, final assembly, and commissioning of rail vehicles facilities.
