Indian Railways approves Bengaluru suburban rail, India [free access]

The Extended Railway Board (ERB) of Indian Railways has approved the revised detailed project report (DPR) to develop a suburban rail network in Bengaluru at an estimated investment of INR159 billion. The project will now be sent to the Government of India’s Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs for final approval. In addition, ERB has announced plans to establish a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to execute the project.

 

The Bengaluru suburban rail network will comprise four corridors, which will collectively span 148 km and cover 57 stations. The project cost of INR159 billion will be jointly financed by the Government of India and the state government of Karnataka. Passenger services are expected to commence by 2026.
