December 8, 2019

The Mexico City Metro /Sistema de Transporte Colectivo (STC) has begun testing the recharge/ top-up machines for the integrated mobility card, branded the ‘MI Card’. Tests are being carried out on machines installed in stations with a high footfall. Around 250 such machines are expected to be installed in different stations of the STC network by December 2019 under Phase 1 of the integrated fare project.

In October 2019, the city government of Mexico launched Phase I of the integrated fare project, under which the MI Card will be deployed for fare payments on the Mexico City Metro, Metrobús (bus rapid transit system), Xochimilco Light Rail, and Ecobici (bicycle-sharing system). Under Phase 2 of the project, the city government will deploy 1,200 validators on trolleybuses and on the Red de Transporte de Pasajeros (RTP) network. Under Phase 3, the card will be integrated for all trolleybus and RTP routes. The final phase, Phase 4, will be completed by June 2020. Under this phase, the card will be integrated with the Cablebús system (cable car system).
