Funding secured for Federal Way Link Extension Project, US [free access]

Sound Regional Transit Authority (Sound Transit) has secured USD1.4 billion in federal funding for the development of Federal Way Link Extension Project. The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has signed a USD790 million full funding grant agreement (FFGA) and has received USD629.5 million in US Department of Transportation credit assistance through the Build America Bureau under the Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) programme.


The extension will span 12.6 km from Angle Lake through SeaTac and Kent-Des Moines to Federal Way in southern King County. It is expected to commence operations in 2024. Average daily ridership is estimated to be 29,000–34,000 passengers by 2026. Operational frequency will be 6–8 minutes.
