Hyundai Rotem to supply rolling stock of Singapore MRT Jurong Region Line [free access]

February 7, 2020

South Korea-based Hyundai Rotem has secured a SGD416.50 million contract from Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) to supply 62 three-car driverless trains for Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Jurong Region Line. This is Hyundai Rotem’s first rolling stock contract in Singapore. The company will also provide long-term service support services to the operator of the line.

Each driverless train will have a maximum speed of 70 km/hr and will be equipped with advanced-condition monitoring and diagnostic systems. Select trains will be equipped with an automated track inspection system which will monitor the real-time condition of major equipment and devices installed on the trains. The first train is scheduled to be delivered by mid-2024.

The Jurong Region Line is the seventh MRT line in Singapore. It will span 24 km and cover 24 stations. Construction is scheduled to commence in 2020 and is expected to be completed by 2026. Passenger services are scheduled to commence by 2028.
