DfT invites EoIs for all-electric bus town project, UK [free access]

February 6, 2020

The Department for Transport (DfT) has invited expressions of interest (EoI) for local authorities to apply for funding for the deployment of electric buses. The last date for the submission of EoIs is April 30, 2020.

The EoIs are invited as a part of DfT’s initiative to promote the UK’s first fully electric bus town by 2025. DfT will allocate up to GBP50 million funding to the winning authority/authorities under the initiative. The funds can be allocated to one or more all-electric bus towns/cities.

The GBP50 million all-electric bus town project is a part of DfT’s GBP170 million funding to improve bus service and to reduce fleet emission. Of the remaining funds, GBP20 million will be invested in trials of on-demand ride-sharing services in rural and suburban areas, GBP70 million will be allocated for ‘Superbus’ networks, and GBP30 million will be given for improvement of current services or to restore lost routes by 2021.
