Ile-de-France Mobilites to launch tenders for rail operations from January 2023 [free access]

February 6, 2020

Île-de-France Mobilités has announced a timeline to launch competitive tendering for Réseau Express Régional (RER), suburban rail, metro, and tramway services in Paris. The New Rail Pact law allows the public transport authorities in France to launch competitive tendering for rail operation from January 1, 2023.

Île-de-France Mobilités plans to select a concessionnaire to operate eight commuter rail lines, which is currently operated by SNCF Transilien. Further, the tender for the RER network will be launched depending on the lines. The tender for RER Line E is planned to be launched in 2025, for Lines C and D between 2033 and 2039, and for Lines A and B on January 1, 2040.

Currently, Île-de-France Mobilités is seeking approval from the government to launch tenders for the RER, the metro, and the tramway network before 2030.
