Canada: Impact of COVID-19 on the demand for public transport in Toronto [free access]

April 1, 2020

The demand for public transport declined sharply across multiple services in Toronto in March 2020. In the first week of March, the decline in the demand for each service was less than 10 per cent (except on the Union Pearson Express [UP Express] on March 10).  The demand declined by over 50 per cent on all services from March 16 onwards, following the announcement by Metrolinx that it was reducing services from March 18 onwards.

The table below provides information about the changes in the estimated demand for public transport in Toronto in March.
