June 16, 2020

The Government of the UK will invest GBP12 million in research on zero emission projects for the development of greener vehicles and for the improvement of electric vehicle (EV) charging technology. The Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) will provide the funding through Innovate UK, the innovation agency in the UK.

Of the total, GBP10 million will be allocated for a new Zero Emission Vehicle Innovation Competition, where applicants will be invited to bid for a grant to fund research and development (R&D) and feasibility work for six-month rapid-delivery projects. These projects will be focused on the development of zero emission vehicles and charging technologies. GBP2 million will be allocated to small and medium businesses in the UK to support their research in areas like battery technology that can be used in future electric vehicle production.
