Select metro services resume; Kochi Metro network expanded, India [free access]

September 8, 2020

Metro services have been resumed on select lines in select cities in India. The services had been discontinued due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. Currently, services have been resumed in cities, including Delhi, Chennai, Noida, Bangalore, Kochi, and Hyderabad. In addition, tokens have been discontinued as fare media on the Delhi and Chennai metro networks. Tokens have been replaced by quick-response (QR)-code tickets. Passengers can purchase tickets using the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) smartphone mobile application (app) and make payment using a digital wallet.

In addition, plans are being considered to resume services on the Jaipur Metro network around mid-September 2020.

Furthermore, passenger services have commenced on the 1.33-km-long extension of Kochi Metro. With the opening of this extension, the Kochi Metro network now spans 25.2 km.
