Masabi provides fare payment and mobile ticketing solutions in Canada and the US [free access]

September 2, 2020

Mobility application Transit, and Masabi have launched a new single-ride bus fare for the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM). The fare includes free transfers during a 120-minute period and is valid on Montreal-area buses operated by the four regional transit agencies. The transit agencies accepting the fare are Réseau de transport métropolitain (exo), Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL), Société de transport de Laval (STL), and Société de transport de Montréal (STM). This enables Montreal transit riders to pay for trips using a mobile phone and allows passengers to purchase bus tickets and BIXI bikeshare passes using a single transit account. The new mobile bus fare was created by ARTM in response to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Additionally, Saskatoon Transit has awarded a contract to Masabi to deliver a mobile phone and account-based ticketing (ABT) solution. Under the contract, Masabi will deliver a ticketing solution that will allow riders to control a single mobility account and ride buses across the city by tapping their mobile phone or smartcard. The solution will enable riders to pre-purchase tickets and passes from their phones, or to add money to their new stored-value accounts and tap their mobile phone or smartcard on the validator when boarding a bus. This will allow customers to board buses without having to select their fare or buy a ticket in advance.

The new mobile app will include mobile ticketing and stored-value wallets, which will also be integrated into the Transit app using Masabi’s Justride Software Development Kit (SDK), enabling a Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) experience.

Additionally, Collier Area Transit (CAT) has partnered with Masabi to launch a new mobile ticketing app for riders using Collier Area Transit’s services. The mobile ticketing app, called rideCAT, enables riders to purchase and display tickets directly on their smartphones. Passengers can also purchase tickets online using the new web portal. Riders using Collier Area Transit’s mobile ticketing app (powered by Masabi’s Justride fare payments platform) can purchase tickets using a credit or debit card, or via Apple Pay.
