Government of Scotland provides funds for retrofitting bus exhaust, UK [free access]

September 3, 2020

The Government of Scotland has provided GBP9.75 million through the Bus Emission Abatement Retrofit Fund (BEAR) 2020–2021 to 19 bus and coach operators to retrofit 594 vehicle exhausts. The funding has been provided to assist Scotland’s green recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic by reducing harmful emissions and to support the introduction of low emission zones (LEZs) in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, and Dundee. The funding has been provided for the period 2020–2021.

The retrofitting will assist in reducing nitrogen dioxide and particulate emissions from older buses and coaches through the installation of new exhausts that comply with the latest Euro VI standard. Transport Scotland and Energy Saving Trust will be monitoring the emissions performance from the retrofitted vehicles.
