EU announces funding for sustainable and safe transport projects in Europe [free access]

The European Union (EU) has announced EUR54 million funding for sustainable and safe transport projects in Europe. The projects have been selected under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Transport Blending Facility rolling call.


Schienenfahrzeuge Baden-Württemberg (SFBW) / State Rail Vehicle Authority Baden-Württemberg has secured a EUR16.8 million grant for the installation of European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) systems on 238 regional trains, including 118 existing trainsets and 120 new trainsets. The total cost of the project is EUR1.95 billion. SFBW has also received EUR850 million in loans from the European Investment Bank (EIB) for the project.


The sustainability projects funded by the EU include the procurement of 108 new natural gas, electric, and hydrogen buses along with charging infrastructure for the bus depots in Barcelona, Spain; the purchase of 303 electric buses together with charging infrastructure in Paris, France; and 255 electric charging stations for road vehicles on the TEN-T Core and Comprehensive network in Italy.
