BRU selects Qbuzz to operate bus and light-rail in Utrecht [free access]

October 26, 2010

Netherlands-based public transport company Qbuzz has secured a contract to operate bus services and the Sneltram light-rail service from the city of Utrecht to the satellite towns of Nieuwegein and Ijsselstein. The concession awarded by Bestuur Regio Utrecht (BRU), the regional transport authority of Netherland’s Utrecht province, runs for eight years starting from December 11, 2011. It is the first Dutch tram-operating contract to be awarded through a public tender.

Qbuzz currently operates buses in Rotterdam and in the provinces of Fryslân, Groningen and Drenthe in the Netherlands. Meanwhile, it will be introducing a season ticket for mixed car, bicycle and public transport use around Utrecht.
