Global Metro Projects Report 2012

Global Mass Transit Research has released the first edition of the Global Metro Projects Report – the most comprehensive and up-to-date study on the sector.

The report was released on May 24, 2012.

The report has 569 pages and comprises three distinct sections.

Part 1 of the report (about 50 pages) describes the existing state of, and the expected opportunities in, the global metro rail industry in terms of network, ridership, rolling stock and technology, and fare systems. It examines technical and financing developments and trends over the last few years; analyses key growth drivers and challenges; and assesses the future outlook for the industry.

Part 2 of the report (about 490 pages) provides updated information on the world’s top 101 metro rail projects that present significant capital investment opportunities. These projects have a total existing network length of about 8,900 km and a proposed length of over 8,000 km. The report covers 51 countries organised into five regions: North America, Latin America, Asia, Europe, Middle East and Africa. These countries represent about 80 per cent of the world’s gross domestic product (GDP).

The report presents information on existing networks, stations, ridership, rolling stock, technology and fare systems. It highlights upcoming capital investment requirements and opportunities by focussing on extensions and upgrades of existing lines and stations, development of new lines and stations, rolling stock procurement and refurbishment, power and communications technology upgrades, and fare system developments.
