Small Starts projects is a category of projects eligible under the Capital Investment Grants (CIG), a programme providing funding for new and extended rapid rail, bus rapid transit (BRT), commuter rail, streetcar, ferries and corridor-based BRT projects. Small Starts projects comprise upcoming and existing fixed guideway systems and corridor based BRT projects having an estimated total capital cost less than USD300 million and are seeking investments under USD100 million under Section 5309 CIG program funds.
For fiscal year 2019 (FY 2019), Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has recommended a total of 36 such projects which entail a total investment exceeding USD4.12 billion. The table given below provides information about such projects.
