FTA allocates USD300 million for transit projects in Arizona, California, and Washington [free access]

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has allocated USD300 million in appropriated Fiscal Year 2019 (FY 2019) Capital Investment Grants (CIG) Program funding to three rail transit projects in Arizona, California, and Washington. The projects selected to receive the funds are the South Central Light Rail Extension in Phoenix (USD100 million), the Westside Subway Section 3 (USD100 million) in Los Angeles, and the Federal Way Light Rail in Seattle (USD100 million).


The South Central Light Rail Extension is a planned 8.85-km (5.5-mile) long extension of the existing light rail transit (LRT) system from downtown Phoenix to the South Mountain Village Core, covering nine stations.


The Westside Subway Section 3 Project includes a 4.1-km (2.56-mile) long expansion of the Purple Line between Century City and Westwood/VA Hospital, with two new subway stations.


The Federal Way Link Rail project is a 12.5-km (7.8-mile) long extension of the LRT line from the Angle Lake station through the cities of SeaTac, Des Moines, Kent, and Federal Way, covering three stations.
