Peshawar BRT cost escalates to PKR71 billion, Pakistan [free access]

September 7, 2019

The Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) has announced that the cost of the Peshawar bus rapid transit (BRT) project has escalated by PKR3 billion to PKR71 billion. The escalation in project cost has been attributed to the devaluation of Pakistan’s currency and to inflation.

The BRT system will span over 26 km and cover 31 stations. It is currently under construction. The project is being financed by the Government of France, Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The date of commencement of operations is yet to be announced.
