Scotland to invest GBP500 million in bus infrastructure, UK [free access]

The Government of Scotland has announced the Government’s Programme for Scotland 2019-–020, which focuses on plans to reduce the effects of climate change as well as carbon emissions in Scotland. Under the programme, the government has announced plans to invest in clean transport to reduce the impact of emissions from public transport in Scotland.


The plans include investment of more than GBP500 million for bus infrastructure to tackle the impact of congestion on bus services and to increase the patronage of public transport; decarbonisation of railways in Scotland by 2035through continued electrification, procurement of battery-powered trains,and exploration of hydrogen-powered trains; and  provision of additional GBP17 million in funding to support the demand for ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEVs) through the Low Carbon Transport Loan scheme.
